Phuket: Triathlon Destination

Already the host for one major International Triathlon event each year, Phuket boasts warm tropical ocean temperatures, scenic roads and idyllic run locations, a huge range of accommodation, beautiful food and fine service. It is rapidly becoming a destination for athletes of all calibers who wish to either compete or just take advantage of the spectacular training grounds.

Along with a huge number of visitors to the island, Phuket has a steadily increasing dynamic expat community. The energy and enthusiasm of this community is paving the way for competitive sport on the island. The inaugural Tri Ballistic triathlon was held on February 26th, 2006. Fifty seven children aged between 6 and 14 years of age trained and completed this triathlon. A second event was organised for March 26th, 2006 with over eighty participates involving both children and adults.

Tri Ballistic has outlined a calendar of events for the remainder of 2006 consisting of another family triathlon in June, a duathlon and an International event to be held in December. In 2007 we aim to organize a triathlon series for children and adults as well as two major International events.

In the planning and organising of Tri Ballistic events, safety is always our main concern. To provide maximum safety on our swim courses trained life guards are required. Ropes and floats are also used to mark to entire course. The bike course is carefully selected to use roads where traffic can be effectively controlled, the roads can be cleaned before the events and well marshaled. The run courses are designed to make the most of the cooler shadier locations where a varied, yet safe course can be followed.
